Donald James Metoyer, a beloved husband, father, stepfather, and decorated military veteran, passed away on June 10, 2023. He was born on July 21, 1940, in Natchitoches, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents Isaac Jr, and Mary Ila Metoyer and two sisters, Marjorie Metoyer Ravare and Linda Metoyer. Donald married Catherine Gallien on February 1, 1964, and together they were blessed with two sons, Stephen (Maria) of Houston, Tx, and Darrel (late Audrette) of Lake Charles, LA, who brought immense joy and pride to their lives. Donald was a devoted father, providing guidance, love, and support to his children throughout their lives.

Donald found love again and married Allie Meziere on April 27, 1996. This union expanded his family, and he became a loving stepfather to Allie’s children Walter Stewart Meziere Jr (Chellie) of Lavon, TX, Rodney Meziere (Becky) of Bayou Derbonne, LA, Claudine Metoyer (David) of Natchitoches, LA, Judith Lee (Ronald) of Richmond, TX, Penelope Meziere-Clayton (Jerry) of Claremont, CA, and Jonathan Meziere (Josephine) of Natchitoches, LA. He embraced this role with open arms, creating a loving and nurturing environment for his blended family.

Donald's dedication and service extended beyond his family, as he made a significant impact during his military career. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on August 26, 1958, and served with distinction in both active duty and the reserves. His military journey spanned an impressive 29 years, during which he received numerous meritorious awards and recognitions. His exceptional leadership qualities and unwavering commitment to duty led to his promotion to the highest enlisted rank in the US Army, Command Sergeant Major, on June 13, 1978.

Following his active military service, Donald transitioned to a successful career in the furniture industry. He began his journey with Clark Dunbar Furniture Company in 1962, initially working as a warehouse employee and delivery team member. Through determination and hard work, he climbed the ranks and eventually became the Vice President of Clark Dunbar. Donald's extensive knowledge and personable sales approach made him excel on the sales floor, where he established lasting relationships with customers. Later in his career, he joined Haverty's Furniture, where he continued to be an exemplary sales professional, leaving a lasting impression on colleagues and customers alike.

Donald will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his genuine kindness, and his ability to brighten any room with his warm smile and infectious laughter. He was devoted to his Catholic faith and enjoyed being a part of the St. Juliana Catholic Church Choir and the Knights of St. Peter Claver. One of his favorite past times was to enjoy live zydeco music with sweetheart Allie.

Donald James Metoyer leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories cherished by everyone including blended family of 8 children, 27 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren, as well as his extended family and friends. Although he is no longer physically with us, his spirit will continue to guide and inspire us.
