Gracie was the third of six children born to Grant and Ocie Ward Cooper on September 17, 1942 in Rhinehart, Louisiana. Gracie accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by the late Reverend Dave Woods at the New Evergreen Baptist Church. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church and later Randolph Church of Christ while she resided in San Antonio, Texas.
Gracie was a 1960 graduate of Good Pine High School. She was an energetic and talented player on the legendary Wildcat girls basketball team playing alongside her sister Faye. Upon graduation, she moved to San Antonio to begin her life’s journey.
In 1962, Gracie met and married Isaiah Clinton. They moved to France and their marriage was blessed with two beautiful children, Rory and Regena. Upon returning to the United States, they made their home in San Antonio, Texas.
Gracie was no stranger to hard work. She was employed for many years and retired from State Farm Insurance. After retirement, she served as receptionist at Universal City School District, worked as a dispatcher for Mission Wrecker Service, and server at Luby’s cafeteria. Gracie was a loving person (with her mean, strong-willed, and opinionated self), a gourmet cook, and loved to travel. Gracie’s other hobbies includedspending time with and caring for family and friends, playing Gin Rummy, collecting what-nots, working in the year, shopping at estate sales, and making homemade wine.
Gracie was preceded in death by her parents Mother (Ocie) in 1962, Father (Grant) in 1979; Son, Rory in 2018; brothers Jimmy in 1998 and Ray in 2001; and sisters Shirley in 1950, and Mary in 2019. Gracie peacefully transitioned from labor to reward at 10:15 on the evening of February 13, 2025 at LaSalle Nursing Home in Jena, Louisiana.
Gracie leaves to cherish her memories: a loving daughter, Regena (Shawn) of Kershaw, South Carolina, loving and devoted siblings, who stood by her to the end: Faye Monson of Rhinehart, Louisiana and Jerry (Barbara) Cooper of Garland, Texas; Special Niece and Nephew who helped her move from Texas back to Louisiana, Sophia Williams and Anthony (Lolita) Jackson of Jena, Louisiana; Special Cousins, Charity and Freddie Ford of Rhinehart, LA and a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
