Henry Blake

Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:3


Mr. Henry Blake was born to Ms. Algirtha Hamilton on February 27, 1944. He was the third child born of seven siblings.


At an early age, Henry confessed Christ and joined the Morning Star Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend John Gaines.

Henry married Sharon Douglas on January 11, 1981. To this union two boys were born, Cedric and Marvin Blake.


During his career, jobs included working for the Federal Forest Service. He worked a number of years at Willamette Plywood Plant. He also installed insulation pipes as a part-time job. Henry’s last career move included working for the Louisiana Department of Agriculture where he retired after twenty years of service with the company.

An avid outdoorsman, Henry enjoyed working with his hands. He liked working on motors and tractors. He also tended his cattle while enjoying his retirement.


Proceeding Henry in death were his mother, Algirtha Hamilton and sisters, Elouise Sawyer, and Margie Hamilton; an aunt Lucreay Hamilton Howard, and uncles, Silas Hamilton and Matthew Hamilton. Those continuing to cherish his memory are his wife, Sharon Douglas Blake and sons, Cedric and Marvin, and LaDarius Blake. Surviving siblings include Ivory Sawyer of Palm Dessert, Ca; three brothers, Joseph Hamilton (Rose), Willie Hamilton (Evelyn) and Leon Hamilton all of Natchitoches, LA; two aunts, Bertha Jenkins and Dolly Shields, and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
